Adam Smith, not J M Keynes or Frank Knight, was the First Scholar to make the Uncertainty –Risk Distinction Explicitly and Apply it Rigorously
Brady, Michael Emmett
School of Business Administration and Public Policy, Department of Operations Management, California State University, California, USA
Array
Adam Smith was the first academic in history to make an explicit, detailed Uncertainty –Risk distinction and apply it clearly in a number of worked out examples and applications consistently in his analysis of decision making in the Wealth of Nations on occupational choice, businesses such as mining and fishing ,taxation, and foreign trade.
Other possible claimants will be covered briefly. Only an author’s published works will be considered in making an evaluation.
G. Boole, with his indeterminate (uncertainty) –determinate (risk-calculatable probabilities) approach of his 1854 The Laws of Thought, will be ranked second. Joseph Schumpeter, with his 1911 Theory of Economic Development contribution, is ranked third, while Keynes with his 1921 A Treatise on Probability, will be ranked fourth on tie breaks over Knight, with his 1921 Risk, Uncertainty, and Profit ,given that Keynes’s unpublished Fellowship dissertations of 1907 and 1908 are substantially earlier than Knight’s unpublished doctoral dissertation of 1916.G L S Shackle ‘s approach is a non probabilistic approach which ignored the much earlier work of Smith, Boole, and Keynes.

Globalization minus One: The Emerging Contours of a New Global Economic Order

Disruption induces disequilibrium. Today’s global economy is the case in point. Powerful sources of disruption are undermining classic premises of global economic equilibrium and, in the process, changing the contours of the World economy. Long cherished globalization premises of free market, open economy, small government, private initiative and deregulation are being challenged. Sources of this challenge are numerous but the most striking is the recent rapid and abrupt USA reclusive and isolationist measures. The United States, the key global economic player, is assuming a protective posture by introducing tariff barriers, annulling international trade agreements, promoting self-serving job creation slogans and hastily recalling industries and services. And all this is uttering threats of crude retaliation. National interest seems to have taken precedence over cross country gains. And others seem to be working on a new framework: globalization minus one. A globalization that is based on new premises and involves the majority of global economic players but one: the United States. This will be the focus of the following article.

VOLATILITY SPILLOVER BETWEEN USA AND EGYPTIAN CAPITAL MARKETS
Shahwan, Tamer Mohamed
Department Of Accounting, Finance & Banking
Al Ain University Of Science And Technology
Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.
This paper investigates volatility spillover among the capital markets of USA and Egypt by applying the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model and multivariate regression analysis. During the period from 01/01/2004 to 30/06/2010, daily closing prices of the two market indices (EGX 30 and S&P 500) are examined. The study turns out that evidence of bidirectional volatility spillover between US capital market and Egyptian capital market is observed. These findings suggest that the developed equity markets and the emerging markets are gradually integrated in the sense that the volatility of each market is transmitted to the other markets.

FOOD SAFETY DRIVES FOR SUSTAINED DEVELOPMENT- A STUDY
K.C., Prof. Chandra
National Food Safety Mission has been seen both as a social safety net for vulnerable sections of the population and as an educational intervention aimed at ensuring that children go to school and that their learning is improved by elimination of hunger in the class room. The role of Food safety drives as social safety nets may have been enhanced on the context of the recent and persisting global food, fuel and financial crises and high rates of food inflation in most parts of the world. In this context, the experience of a large and populous developing country like India with respect to Food safety drives becomes relevant for other countries seeking to initiate or to strengthen and expand such programmes. This research study provides a descriptive summary of India’s experience with Food safety drives, focusing mainly on the state of Tamil Nadu and it capital city Chennai, where it all started in India, the place that saw the launch of a national initiative in this regard.

Array
Recognising the indispensable role of women owned enterprises in general economic development, the government of Nigeria have offered support to the development of women owned enterprises through financial intermediary, infrastructures and policy measures. Despite of these indicators, the state of micro entrepreneurship has yet to reach a satisfactory level and women enterprises continue to lag behind that of their male counterparts. This study therefore investigated the influence of financial inclusion and social inclusion on the Performance of Women - Owned Businesses in Lagos State, Nigeria. The population of this study comprised all four thousand six thousand sixty three (4,663) women-owned Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) registered with SMEDAN while three hundred and fifty seven (357) were selected as a sample size for the study. The data collection instruments for the study were structured questionnaire and personal interview. Data were analyzed with the aid of Multiple Regression (Ordinary Least Square Estimation) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Results showed that financial inclusion and social inclusion have positive and significant influence on women–owned businesses performance. Additionally, financial inclusion and social inclusion jointly contribute about 42.9% to the performance of women –owned businesses. Results also indicated that social inclusion (r = 0. 543**) is positively and significantly related with the financial inclusion. The therefore recommended that government should have a policy in place through its financial regulator to encourage financial institutions to diversify their branch networks in the country and government should also have policies and regulatory frameworks in place that will close the gender gap in financial inclusion and social inclusion.

Reflections on the Sustainability Theme in Economics
Antonio COSSIGA, Dott. Giovanni
Presidente Collegio Sindaci Policlinico Umberto 1, Università Sapienza – ROMA
Array
Sustainability is not only a choice of efficiency and compatible growth, but it also becomes an obligation when economies break away from the path of stability and take the road of submondo of instability. Because the long history of humanity and its path from the dawn of time tell us that this story must last and that the planet's resources must be enough for future generations. Therefore, sustainability must be protected both from the award of linear growth if the path of the economy is correct and from penalties if the economic systems and the leadership that guide them escape from the path of sustainable balance. Therefore, we must imagine that the sustainable economy is governed by an unavoidable natural law that drives the systems to a stable equilibrium. Therefore, if the systems have undertaken the route of instability, they will enter a submondo, in which the linearity of the growth is lost and is replaced by the irregularity in the cycle of the conjuncture. On the other hand, the unstable system is crossed by monetary messages that are not evil but the echo of social and economic malaise. Inflation and deflation are ectoplasms created by the unstable world and destined to be immediately perceived by each member of the community, regardless of any social limitations. So that fighting the monetary signs of inflation or deflation could become a war against windmills. Because it is necessary to combat the malaise of instability and not the signs of this malaise. The economic and social malaise of instability creates tension in the systems towards the recession, which we must understand as an elitist tool to resolve the issue of imbalance. Hindering this trend, which is dictated by natural law and wants to privilege the sustainability of sustainability, can be the cause of the many disturbances that affect today's world, which is grappling with the presumption that we are able to control natural sustainability laws. Which are the perennial viaticum that accompanies humanity in its long march towards the intelligence of creation and nature that surrounds us and acts as a mother.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work has become a widespread phenomenon, affecting various sectors of the economy, including the services sector. This paper examines the effects of remote work and in-person work on productivity, profitability, satisfaction, and challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the services sector. The paper employs a survey methodology to gather data from 200 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the services sector across India, who have opted for remote work or in-person employment during the pandemic. To analyze the data and test the hypotheses, the paper employs descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. In the paper, it is found that remote work has a positive impact on the productivity and profitability of SMEs in the services sector, but also poses some challenges such as communication difficulties, cyber-security risks, and work-life balance issues. In addition, the paper finds that in-person work has a positive impact on the satisfaction and motivation of SMEs in the services sector, but also exposes them to health risks and operational costs. The paper concludes by presenting some recommendations for small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the services sector to effectively address the challenges of remote work and in-person work, and to capitalize on the potential offered by both forms of employment.

The concept of territorial innovation, which evokes the transformation of relations between local actors and physical amenities for the development of a territory, is essential in the reflection on the tourist attraction. To analyze a territorial innovation is to present the socio-cultural, economic and geographical resources that are mobilized by an individual or collective actors. This text maintains that territorial innovation is part of a very broad process of networking tourism operators and their projects with a view to creating a pole of competitiveness. As a result, we resume that there exists a functional proximity which allows the leader in the necessary space in which to perform effective innovative work emotional buffer zones which will enable him to maintain the ability to see clearly and make rational. After discussing approaches to the development of territoriality tourism, we throw the theoretical foundations of the notion of territorial innovation, linked to that of tourist attractiveness, before concluding with the analysis of the process of putting Vallue in tourism in Petit-Goave, in its forks and ruptures leading to cooperative or conflicting innovations.

This paper discussed the strategies adopted by retail investors for taking a decision regarding investment in equity securities. In the process, the theoretical aspects of investment decision making, investor preferences and perception are presented as a prelude to the empirical analysis. It is found from the study that information on several aspects required for trading in equity investments can be obtained from various resources. Retail investors lack of expertise and competency to employ sophisticated analytical tools to take their investment decisions. They adopt very simple and less time consuming strategies for arriving at a decision of investment in equity securities.

Dynamic synergy analysis in international business: the concept and application to two players China and Russia
Namaki, M S S El

Array
There are two ways to conduct economic, and possibly political, business between countries. The first is conventional search for country present day competitive advantage (Porter, 1990). Yet competitive advantage is transient, not sustainable (Forbes, 2.6.2013). And competitive advantage could relate to yesterday’s industries not today’s arenas. A more plausible search is that for strategic synergy or a situation where the two countries whole is greater than the sum of individual country parts. The later, the synergy route, places emphasis on strategic longer term complementarity or synergy between the two countries rather than a transient advantage.
The following article addresses the second scenario.
It projects a model for the identification of the term driving forces of two economies, tracing their respective future synergies and deriving synergy-rooted strategies. The article goes on to apply the model to two countries: China and Russia, being contemporary illustrations of a largely politically driven search for economic synergy.
The model could have conceptual as well as applied dimensions. Conceptually, it provides a theoretical framework for present day international business concepts. Operationally it could lead to specific strategies, and venues, for economic and business engagement between countries.

Purpose: The aim of the paper is to investigate earnings management practices related to goodwill accounting, focusing on its first recognition as well as its write-offs, due to the impairment test.
Design/methodology/approach: The study refers to a sample of Italian listed firms and the analysis covers three years, with a total of 591 firm-year observations. The modified Jones’ regression model has been used in estimating discretionary accruals, as a proxy of earnings management practices.
Findings: A positive relationship between discretionary accruals and yearly changes in goodwill has been proved. Findings also show an incidence of leverage and performance.
Research limitations/implications: The study focuses on a single context (Italy) and it is essentially based on financial-economic variables.
Practical implications: Findings of the study could be relevant for standard-setters in future revisions of goodwill accounting.
Social implication: The study could support investors in evaluating the incidence of first recognition as well as goodwill impairment on the quality of earnings.

The measurement of the financial issues of local public administrations has never been addressed in the scientific literature on Haiti, either from the point of view of accountability or the evaluation of local public actions. However, the provision of local public goods and services depends on the financial situation of these local public administrations. In this paper, the financial measurement model will be based on nine indicators, three for financial sustainability, three for financial flexibility and three for financial vulnerability. The results demonstrated not only the difficulties faced by municipalities in the West Department in financing their supply of local goods and services to taxpayers, but also the profound disparities in the evolution of their financial health over the period 2015–2018.

Fundamental Shifts in Strategic Thinking Concepts and their Teaching Implications

Powerful forces of disruption are penetrating the core concepts of strategic thinking and the strategy education industry.
Traditional strategic thinking literature and instruction material rest on a solid base of concepts developed by authors from Ansoff and Drucker to Porter, Mintzberg and Prahalad. Their concepts lasted for decades and their literature is a standard feature of business school strategy teachings until this very day. Disruptive forces are changing this situation, however, Generic and functional disruptive forces from boundary-breaking technologies, and norm shaking sociology to rule-breaking economics and unsettling political shifts, have gone a long way towards introducing a new paradigm.
The following article provides an attempt at identifying those concepts worn out by new realities or end game concepts, and those others constituting a novel thrust.
The article draws a picture of possible future consequences as well. Those include research prospects, curricula implications and competency gaps.

DEVELOPMENTAL STRATEGIES ROOTED IN BIBLE

The objective of the paper is to study the Development Strategies adopted by Jesus Christ. He was very careful in choosing his disciples. His twelve disciples were responsible for expanding his kingdom. Jesus was the ultimate spiritreneur, because he gave up a comfortable living as a carpenter to pursue a new line of work that would really affect human lives. All entrepreneurs and CEOs can learn his strategies and expand their organizations. Most of the New Business values fit well into Christ's kingdom of love, servant leadership, trust-based relationships between manager and employee, rather than fear-based ones dependent on corporate hierarchy, ethical behavior; corporate higher purpose and responsibility and personal fulfillment and development.

Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, and the “Invisible Hand”: A Metaphor For Ambiguity-Uncertainty Aversion by Decision Makers

Smith’s use of the “Invisible Hand”, as pointed out by Gavin Kennedy, is a metaphor provided for the great percentage of readers of the Wealth of Nations whom Smith realized would not be able to grasp the nature of his argument ,which was about the ambiguity-uncertainty aversion of the majority of 18th century English business men. Gavin Kennedy has pointed out that the term,” Invisible Hand”, had nothing to do with Laissez Faire, free markets ,free trade, Natural liberty, etc. ,for Adam Smith. Smith’s argument is an application of his very advanced decision theory that regarded the standard mathematical laws of the probability calculus as a special case that had only limited applicability in the real world. In general, applications of the mathematical laws of the probability calculus required a complete information set that was rarely satisfied. Smith realized that probability ,nevertheless ,had to be taken into account. Smith advocated an interval valued approach to the use of probability under conditions of uncertainty/ambiguity.
Smith made great use of the concept of uncertainty in the Wealth of Nations. Uncertainty for Smith dealt with the quality of the information base upon which the probabilities were being calculated. Smith generally defined risk in the Wealth of Nations as an inexact and/or indeterminate estimate not based on the mathematical laws of the probability calculus. Risk could be calculated exactly only in conditions where there was a very high quality of evidence over which there were no conflicts and/or disputes of assessment regarding the relevancy of the data.
Smith’s major conclusion in Part IV of the Wealth of Nations is that businessmen are ambiguity and/or uncertainty averse. The quality of the information ,data ,or knowledge upon which the probabilities, which would be interval estimates, is a second factor that is completely independent of the probability estimates themselves. Only in the limiting case ,where the evidence is great , stable, and invariant over time, as in the case of deciding to become a shoemaker, would the probability estimates be point estimates.
Smith completely rejects the ethics and decision theory of Jeremy Bentham, as well as all approaches built on it, such as the Subjectivist ( SEU-Subjective Expected Utility) approaches of Frank Ramsey, Bruno de Finetti, L J Savage , Milton Friedman .and modern Bayesians, such as Patrick Suppes, because these approaches require the decision maker to be able to specify precise, exact numerical probabilities. The specification of such exact probabilities means that there is no uncertainty about the future.

THE VITALITY OF COMMUNICATION IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT- A STUDY
Ravinderam, Prof. Mangalan
In today’s global corporation, corporate communication serves as the conscience of the corporation and is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of human resources management in modern organizations. Previously called ‘corporate communication’ or ‘public affairs’, corporate communication has assumed great significance in the 21st century as a result of corporate scandals or crises at modern companies. Public and private undertakings have established corporate communication departments, which usually oversee communication strategy, media relations, crisis communications, internal communications, reputation management, corporate responsibility, investor relations, government affairs and sometimes marketing communication in the present age of globalization, liberalization and privatization. The present study evaluates the corporate communication strategies for human resources management in leading public and private undertakings of Karnataka such as Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, MphasiS and Biocon. The role of corporate communication in human resource management is primarily examined in this paper.

A digital wallet or eWallet is a mobile based software application that securely persists consumer’s payment information and passwords for numerous payment methods. By using an eWallet, users can complete their transactions easily and quickly with technologies such as Quick Response (QR) and near-field communications (NFC). In the modern world, people use digital wallets to engage in financial and non-financial activities using the internet. It stores physical financial instruments digitally and provides high availability to convenience to the user. Typically, to facilitate high security to those financial assets, in the digital wallet of the user, and to maintain reliability and availability, mobile application developing organizations follow different authorization mechanisms. The problem prevailing in a developing country similar to Sri Lanka is the less use of digital wallets in day to day transactions. The final outcome of the research will be to find the factors which affect the use of digital wallets in Sri Lankan students who study in western province universities. The advantage of finding the mentioned factors is to help eWallet developers to enhance their products to attract and onboard more customers. The eWallet developers can think about these measures when developing a solution and use it to promote the application. Further, when developers create an optimal solution, the consumer of eWallets will be highly benefited with an efficient financial application.

We examine the cointegration and causal relationship between insurance and economic development in Nigeria using time series data from 1990 – 2013. Gross domestic product (GDP) is adopted as a proxy for the level of economic development, while total life insurance premiums (TPL), total non-life insurance premiums (TPNL) and total insurance investment (TII) are used in measuring growth in the insurance sector. Data is operationalized through the stationarity test, cointegration test, regression analysis and granger causality tests. The stationarity test reveals that all-time series data are stationary at the 1%, 5% and 10% levels of significance. The test for cointegration shows that all cointegrate when GDP is the endogenous variable. The granger causality test reveals that there is a bidirectional relationship existing between GDP and total non-life insurance premiums while a unidirectional relationship exists between GDP and total life insurance premiums with no causal relationship existing between GDP and total insurance investments. An R-squared value of 0.9776 indicates that the independent variables account for 97.8% of the variations in GDP while the remaining 2.2% is attributable to influence of other variables or fators not in the scope of this study. We conclude that insurance not only contributes to economic development but also has a long term equilibrium relationship. Therefore, we recommend that insurance activities in the country should be encouraged to promote effectiveness and efficiency in order to enhance the long term relationship with economic development.

The importance of housing to man cannot be overemphasized. It predicts spiritual, psychological and physical sense of achievement of social status, security, privacy, and convenience. However, most housing interventions in Nigeria are carried out without adequate consultation/participation of the beneficiaries, thereby creating housing dissatisfaction. This study aimed at investigating the socio-demographic predictors of residents’ satisfaction with public housing estates in Minna; and the objectives are to examine the socio-economic and demographic conditions of the residents of the housing estates and to investigate the relationship between the socio-demographic attributes of the residents and their level of housing satisfaction. A systematic random sampling technique was adopted to administer 297 questionnaires to residents of public housing estates in Minna, Nigeria. Data analysis was conducted with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The majority of the households have a size of 4-9 persons. The respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the location of their kitchens, the landscape elements, wastewater drainage and condition/adequacy of potable water supply. It also revealed that there is a statistically significant relationship between socio-demographic attributes and housing satisfaction among residents of public housing estates in the study area (R2 = .988; df = 6; Sig. =.000). There is, therefore, the need to provide potable water and wastewater management and enact and enforce regulations to control household size in the public housing estates in Minna. There is also the need to study the impact of homeownership status on housing satisfaction in the study area as this study did not cover that.

-There is a need to build an enabling environment for entrepreneurs even in challenging contexts.
-Entrepreneurial thinkers should unite so as to work in fragile contexts. Through training sessions like this, entrepreneurs will be empowered on how to build resilience. They will get to understand the challenges and opportunities that come with doing business for better performance.
-Then they will build resilient businesses hence become strong entrepreneurs.
-I would like to thank the Governor, county government of Kakamega for this timely initiative. I am sure entrepreneurs will be better placed to run their businesses even with greater business support. This forum will also lead to networks of strong entrepreneurs who will be discussing their challenges and successes. They will be programmed to associate and network since they are like-minded.
-The training will also contribute to increasing the capacity of the government on specific entrepreneurial initiatives. Initiating such training is a clear indication that the county government is very much concerned about entrepreneurship to the point of getting involved.

Leveraging Employee Experience during Crisis Situation for Higher performance- Special Reference to COVID -19 pandemic

When the crisis hits the organisation, it’s the positive employee experience that organisation able to manage matters the most to motivate and retain the workforce.
The world is going through an unprecedented crisis. While businesses are fighting to maintain business continuity yet managing employee experience is also equally critical during these testing times of the COVID -19 pandemic. This situation calls for creative ways to balance the employee experience amidst business constraints. During such turbulence, employees often have to deal with both work from home and work at home which includes: helping with household chores, taking care of children and demands of family members alongside work.
Employee experience plays a vital role in keeping employees happy and in the engagement of employees (Deloitte 2017).
Similarly, according to Psichogios P. (2013), the cumulative effect of employees’ experiences will ultimately affect an employee’s performance and, therefore, the results for the entire organisation, regardless of whether employees are engaged but the question arises whether the role of employee performance is same when the organisation is sailing through in the difficult times.
This study is an attempt to understand employees experience and its drivers under crisis situation among employees from the hospitality industry in India
This is a cross-sectional study where both primary and secondary data is collected. Primary data is collected from employees at all levels through a self-report questionnaire. Out of 374 respondents 287clean responses were received.

Corporate responsibility and the idea of the firm
Cranmer, Laurence
Associate Fellow, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. http://orcid.org/0000-0001-8224-2692
Array
An appeal to some version of corporate responsibility has become a strategic issue for business. There are many interpretations of this idea, but it is unlikely that companies can ignore the debate about this issue. Many companies and most global corporations make public claims about their corporate responsibilities in addition to claims about financial outcomes and success. These claims range from informal contributions to public debate, to responses to issues of public concern, to formal reporting on the basis of sets of objectives and targets.
This raises a conceptual question: to what extent, if at all, do claims about corporate responsibility have implications for the idea of the firm. The argument developed in this paper is one attempt to address this conceptual question.
I will start by setting out one version of the idea of the firm and its core or traditional responsibilities, and then work through a series of possible further responsibilities. Each of these further responsibilities will be incorporated into the initial version in order to understand potential implications for the idea of the firm.
The argument in this paper does not assume that this initial version of the idea of the firm is the only possible version, or that the particular dimensions of responsibility described here are the only possible dimensions. However, given this version and these dimensions the paper will consider the kinds of issues that various claims about corporate responsibility would raise for the idea of the firm, and in particular for the boundaries of the firm. The structure of the argument and the specific implications of the responsibilities identified can be assessed separately; the former may continue to be useful even if the latter are disputed or incorrect. In addition, the structure of the argument should make it possible to change the content or the ordering of the specific responsibilities while retaining the overall argument.
This paper does not explicitly distinguish between a series of concepts related to the broad idea of corporate responsibility including corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability, and corporate citizenship among others. These concepts may refer to different aspects of a firm’s responsibilities. For example ‘sustainability’ is increasingly central to the public claims made by firms, and in many cases refers to a specific set of primarily environmental responsibilities. The issues raised by these various concepts can be discussed further.
The argument developed does not make claims about whether the implications discussed are desirable, even if the arguments about the implications for the firm are accurate. However, the argument does aim to open up some of the issues that these claims would need to address if any of these implications were considered desirable.
This paper is intended as a contribution to a continuing debate and is not a closed argument. It is intended to promote a discussion of the adequacy, the empirical implications, and the ethical implications of the arguments presented, and to stimulate further critical analysis.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the decision making process on foreign direct investment (FDI) as well as the location strategies used as the main objective which is the achievement of greater profits via cost reduction. Part of the assumption that the Special Economic Zones (ZEE) recently decreed (2016) offer tax incentives that allow them to reduce costs to foreign companies, encouraging them to establish them in these areas. A comparative analysis of the EEZs with the state of Jalisco as a reference, since this is characterized as an industrialized and attractive state for the arrival of FDI. The method used was a comparative analysis of the descriptive scope of variables such as population by age group, level of education and the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE), as well as the IED. Finally, the main conclusion is that the strength of these states under the EEZ regime is the Economically Active Population (EAP). However, the decree that establishes these special zones in Mexico must be accompanied by policies that strengthen the educational and social and security conditions in these States.

From a decade or so Indian continent has become the centre of attraction in the global economies. This changed outlook is due to the fact that India embraces vast availability of resources and opportunities which makes it the most vibrant global economy in the current scenario of worldwide sluggishness. On this path of growth and prosperity India is showing stiff commitments and competitive edges with developed as well as emerging countries. To be more specific, during this voyage in the Asia pacific region recently on one side India has seen stronger bonding with some of its old mates like Japan but on the other part it has faced strain like situation from its stronger competitor contender china on the same time. Hence, in this context the main aim of this paper is to examine the long run and short run equilibrium impacts of Japan and Chinese stock index as well as macroeconomic variables impact on Indian stock market. This paper finds the presence of both long and short run equilibrium impacts from China and Japan to India. In case of Japanese financial market (Nikki 225) has a trivial negative but significant long run impact whereas, the Chinese stock index (SSE composite) is operating at the short run with the same mild negative but significant impact on the Indian stock market. The results of the impact of macroeconomic variables find the existence of long run as well as short run equilibrium from some of the selected variables on Indian stock market.

DETHRONING AN ARBITRATION AGREEMENT: IS YOUR COMMERCIAL ARBITRATION AGREEMENT VALID IN NIGERIA?
Aderibigbe, Oluwasegun Isaac
Law Lecturer and Researcher
Faculty of Law
Bowen University
Iwo, Nigeria
This topic subscribes very strongly to the quest for the enforcement of an agreement to arbitrate. Sometimes, when a dispute arises, it may not be easy to get an arbitration to take off, even where an agreement covering the dispute is in existence. This sort of situation may arise either because one of the parties is reluctant to arbitrate or because he ignores the agreement and commences an action in court against the other party on the very dispute which should be resolved by arbitration, thus the need for the enforcement of the commercial arbitration agreement. Findings show that the courts in developing countries such as Nigeria do not only recognize the place of arbitration in dispute settlement but also cloth arbitral awards with the garb of estoppels per rem judicatam thereby discouraging the dethronement of arbitration agreements.1 Parties to disputes may therefore agree, or statute may stipulate, that such issues be referred to arbitration for resolution. Findings further show that an issue that will always arise is whether the vesting of jurisdiction in an arbitral tribunal constitutes an ouster of the court’s jurisdiction. However, it is recommended that extensive and explicit provisions should be added to the various Arbitration legislations and rules of developing countries to ensure the enforcement of commercial arbitral agreements.

The Effect of Manager’s Decision on the Perception of the “Leadership vs. Authority” of the Subordinates
Bhosale, Rahul

Array
There have been long debates among scholars, and practitioners on the definition of leadership and whether leadership significantly differs from authority (Farmer & Aguinis, 2005). For example, in my opinion, leadership is defined by followers. Sullivan (2012) suggests, leadership varies based on the followers’ perception of leadership, culture, beliefs, and needs, with needs being the most important driving force of the leadership. However, different people, from different geographic area, field of working and so on, have different conceptions of leadership. This difference can be attributed to various factors that affect people’s decision about who can be their leader. In most cases, managers of the organization at any level are perceived as the centers of action, influence, and power. They make decisions that affect the subordinates and the entire organization. These decisions have positive, negative, or neutral impacts on the subordinates. Managers’ decisions in the workplace determine whether the subordinates perceive the supervisors as leaders or authority figures or both. This paper discusses the cause of mangers’ decisions, the effects of such decisions on subordinates’ lives, and factors that influence people’s perception of supervisors as leaders or authority figures. Understanding the relation between the causation, effect and consequences of those decisions and employee’ perception about leadership can give the direction to Managers for leading the people in prolific way. Distinguishing between leader and authority figure from the view of an employee help the superiors to enhance the people management skills.

This gives substantial freedom and maneuverability to improve the quality of education and global brand building exercise which is crucial for their survival and growth in the face of challenges and competitions. Autonomy implies the freedom to have self-sustainable practices in the overall management of academic and administrative matters. Developing new courses, designing curriculum, determining fee structure, admission of students, engaging teachers, remuneration and retention, teaching-learning, examination and evaluation, and grading, all come under the purview of autonomy. Eventually, autonomy is paving way for increased responsibility and accountability. This paper aims to discuss the institutional responsibility-autonomy linkages in the main operational areas of autonomy and illustrates the accountability outcomes of autonomy. An attempt is also made to arrive at an Accountability Management model that compares conventional management practice styles and Accountability Management practice styles and discusses the processes which come into play therein. Besides, key principles of Accountability management are elaborated.

Factors Impeding Food Security in Akutupa-Kiri, Nigeria

Array
There has been refurbished interest in food security related issues in many developing countries of the world. In fact, the concern about the eradication of poverty and hunger form a major objective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet poverty and hunger still persist due to food shortage and insecurity as a result of increased global food demand, diminishing global food reserves, erratic climatic condition, and increased cost of transportation among others. Before now, various agricultural policies measures have been formulated to curb food security challenges in Nigeria. Unfortunately, these policies have not produced the desired results of the increase in food production. This study examined the factors impeding food security in Akutupa-Kiri, Nigeria. A structured and self-administered questionnaire using systematic sampling technique was used to collect data from a total of 194 (one hundred and ninety-four) household heads farmers representing 2% of the entire population in the study area. The data were presented using descriptive statistics in the form of frequency and percentages. Weighted means were used to determine the predominant factors impeding food security in the study area. Findings revealed that poverty (M.W=5.00), poor road transportation (M.W=5.00), inadequate social amenities (M.W=5.00) and lack of government support and assistance (M.W=5.00) were the most significant factors impeding food security in Akutupa-Kiri. The study recommends that there is a need for improvement in sustainable food security in the study area and Nigeria at large through the provision of adequate road transportation. Effort should be made by the government to render substantial support to the peasant farmers and as well ensure that agricultural policies formulation target these peasants farmers and their rural environments for the purpose of sustainable food security in the nation.

THE WORLDWIDE MODEL FOR IMPROVEMENT IN THE TRAIN RESERVATION SYSTEM
Marini, Dr. Joseph
Martin, Mr. Allen
In everyday life, it is seen that a number of people arrive at a cinema ticket window; if the people arrive too frequently they will have to wait for getting tickets or sometimes do without it. Such problems arise in railways, airlines, etc.. Under such circumstances the only alternative is to form a queue called the waiting line in order to get the service more effectively. If we have too many counters for service then expenditure may be high. On the other hand, if we have only few counters then the queue may become longer resulting in the dissatisfaction or less of customers. Queueing models are aids to determine the optimal number of counters so as to satisfy the customers keeping the total cost minimum. Here the arriving people are called customers and the person issuing the tickets is called a server. Servers may be in parallel or in series. When in parallel, the arriving customers may form a single queue or several queues as is common in big post offices. Service time may be single or in batches.

The Instability of Economic Systems and speculative market: The case of China.
Cossiga, Giovanni Antonio
Università Sapienza Roma, Italy
Array
The paper aims to investigate instability of an economy on the threshold of a financial crisis. We will try to peek on the main variables that seem to "warn" the outbreak of a financial crisis. In fact, the bubble distorts the values of the GDP, which therefore rise. In contrast, the trend in nominal prices remains neutral, because only sensitive to the real economy. This dissonance between the values of growth and inflation can be a useful clue to decipher the formation of a bubble. Therefore, we consider comparing the performance of both GDP and inflation in the years preceding the crisis. After will attempt to determine whether these features are sufficient, at least in part, to provide meaningful messages in a state of emergency being prepared.
In the final part of the essay, we try to apply the search procedure to today's China, which has accumulated profound abnormalities in twenty years of growth boiling. In the experience more or less recent, the formation of a massive speculative bubble is constantly accompanied by a remarkable tendency to deflation of the price system. China is perhaps repeating the experience of Japan and travels to a financial crisis of unexpected violence? We suppose that the shocks of the global economy are transferred to the Chinese giant, which reacts with a slowdown in its endless growth.

Countries at early stages of development have small stocks of capital and are likely to have investment opportunities with rates of return higher than those in advanced economies. The external debt for productive investment within reasonable levels enhances economic growth, but beyond certain levels additional indebtedness reduces growth. The mounting burden of debt servicing and debt crisis motivates capital flight, a paradoxical situation in which resources are flowing out of developing countries. This paper investigates the relationship between external debt and capital flight via TSLS (Two Staged Least Square Method). The results indicate positive relationship between external debt and capital Flight in India.

IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON TEACHING METHODS- A FORWARD LOOK
Bozie, Dr. Minoy
Teaching is a purposeful process which influences learning. Teaching and learning are closely related. In the modern age teaching-learning are accepted as one concept. Both teaching and learning in the instructional technology aim towards the same goal i.e. to bring desirable changes in the behaviour of the learner. Teaching learning task can be performed at three different levels, ranging from least thoughtful to most thoughtful behaviour or mode of action. The set of things of operations help in achieving the objectives from „knowledge to evaluation‟ and in creating the conditions of learning from “stimulus-response to problem solving.” Models of teaching have been developed to help a teacher to improve his capacity to teach and create a richer and more diverse environment for them. The biological science inquiry model which belongs to the information processing family of models is designed to teach the process of research in biology to affect the ways that student process information and to nurture open mindedness and an ability to suspend judgement and balance alternatives. The investigator feel that student taught with traditional method and Biological Science Inquiry Model based teaching method, have differences in their achievement level. Therefore to assess the achievement level of students the investigator has taken up this problem.

IS CHINA’S BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVE (BRI) A CASE OF CROSS COUNTRY DYNAMIC SYNERGY?

Array
China’s Bridge and Road Initiative or BRI is emerging as the new bulwark of a newly reconfigured World economy. The initiative is presented as the conceptual and operational framework for the restructuring of the global economy. Foundations are designed to be all inclusive. There is capital, trade, technology and human resource elements. There are outward flow, inward flows, bilateral flows and regional flows. It draws a whip of economic exchange that run all the way from Spain through Germany, Turkey and Greece to Pakistan and ultimately China. It is projected as “ a Chinese idea but for everyone's benefit”. An effort that will “drive trade and prosperity through Chinese built infrastructure”. And as President Xi puts it “….to …….encourage the building of systems of fair, reasonable and transparent global trade and investment rules.BRI will, to all appearances, require different conceptual foundations from those that guided Raegan’s globalization efforts and the waves that followed. Those were largely based on competition and a country situational dominance based on a unique comparative advantage. BRI’s political and economic context will advance a different foundation: cross country dynamic synergy. And this is the core of the following article. The article starts with a brief analysis of the conceptual framework of the globalization that emerged in the 80’s and contrast that with the principles of cross country dynamic synergy that are adopted today. The article will go further to analysis the principles of the BRI and how those are based on dynamic synergy concepts as well as dynamic synergy application among the players. The article concludes with a projection of the longer term implications of BRI.
The article provides a novel application of cross country dynamic synergy concept to a present day event of unusual scope and potential.

DETERMINANTS OF INFLATION IN INDIA: AN ECONOMETRIC ANALYSIS
Saxena, Swami P
Singh, Archana
Array
Inflation is a continual increase in general price level of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. It is caused by many factors, important among them are excess of demand of goods and services over supply, macroeconomic performance, money supply, economic policies implications, environmental factors etc. A number of researchers in the past made attempts to identify determinants of inflation and to investigate the impact of identified variables on inflation in European and also in some Asian economies. But, in context of India, not many studies can be traced in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to shed some light on the impact of selected variables on inflation in India. The paper considers CPI (Consumer Price Index) inflation as dependent variable and a set of independent macroeconomic variables, which includes Gross Domestic Product, Money Supply, Deposit Rate, Prime Lending Rate, Exchange Rate, Trade Volume (Value of Imports and Exports) and Crude Oil Prices. The empirical analysis covers the quarterly data series for ten financial years from 2002Q1 to 2012Q1. The collected data is analyzed using ADF Unit root test, Granger Causality test, and the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) technique.

The farming of organic product is a unique practice which balances the environmental sustainability and also controls the detrimental effect both on customer’s safety by creating a positive notion in the minds of the customers. The study is basically related to growing of Organic farm products and its influence towards customer attitude which leads to purchase intention. This Research has considered certain variables such as Health Concern, Perceived Behavioural Control, perception of customers, Subjective Norms and Environmental Concerns as to the antecedents of purchase intention. The objective of the literature review is to assess the sustainability factor of organic farm products both in India and abroad and also to identify the impact on customers buying behaviour along with exploring the demand factor in present and future scenarios and identifying the customer’s attitude and environmental concern. This literature review is developed by using the secondary data collected from exhaustive literature, review of journals and the internet. The purpose of the study is to identify the customer’s environmental concern and commitment towards environment sustainability. In organic farming, there is an advantage of low-cost input prices in production which diverts the attention of customers towards organic farming. The limitation of the study is the people are more motivated by personal factors rather than social or environmental factors. The study is limited to organic farm products and customers' attitude leading to purchase intention.

The fundamental target of this exploration is to see whether there is any crevice between the hypothetical ideas contemplated and broke down, and its usage. Practically speaking, matters are constantly minimal diverse, than what it is taught scholastically, or found in writing on any subject. On the other hand, to what degree there is a level of difference in the event of venture examination, in the middle of hypothesis and practice, is endeavored to be resolved, in this exploration. The past exploration on venture examination talked about in expansive terms, about changes in systems with time; variables to be considered for suitable computation of money streams; and segments of rebate rate. Yet, none of these studies have shed much light on its functional application, which is exactly explored, in this exploration. Specifically, three divisions of speculation examination – target, inputs and procedure, are inspected.

Over the past few years, an increase in stress has been witnessed amongst employees of various generations, working together at the workplace. In the process of settling at work, Millenials (Gen Y) are demonstrating new behaviors with the intent to gain success, which is starkly different from their predecessors. The objective of the study is to make a comparative analysis of the workplace related expectations of Gen Yers first as students and then as employees in order to analyze if these expectations change with time and experience, or remain the same.
Data was collected through “Two Stage Stratified Random sampling” from Millennial MBA students from four major districts of Gujarat. Out of 843 respondents, 555 i.e. 65.8 percent were students and 288 i.e. 34.2 percent being the young working professionals.
The students rated “Salary” as the first selection criteria and “job security” being second whereas Professionals rated “Job Security “as the most important factor and “Salary” was rated second, thereby stressing on the importance of these two variables in their selection criteria. “Location of the job” was rated as the least important variable both by the Students and Professionals thereby indicating that they are mobile and interested in taking up assignments that can help expand their outlook irrespective of the location.
For these five variables; the average ranking given by the respondents was cross tabulated with 1.Age, 2.Gender and 3. Status, in order to bring out the comparative importance assigned to each variable.

This paper examined the concept of negotiation and types of negotiation, namely distributive and integrative. It pondered on why people fail to keep to negotiation rules. Thomas Hobbes state of nature and Machiavelli’s concept of the human relationship used to explain this phenomenon. Furthermore, the article argues that this disposition is a consequence of people’s perception of negotiation as a game where one party’s gain is the other party’s loss. The significance of game theory in the negotiation is therefore emphasised. Personality factors were considered important in the negotiation process. The impact of the big-five personality on the negotiation situation was highlighted. Unethical practices could make the negotiation process difficult, thereby affecting the quality of decision reached during negotiation. The study concludes by suggesting some ways of succeeding in negotiation.

Being eighth largest state in India (geographically), the involvement of Karnataka for India’s rising success is significant. Diverse agricultural and mineral resources and strong manufacturing capabilities of Karnataka accounts for close to 10 per cent of India’s product exports. The State’s software exports are more than 35 per cent of India’s software exports. Being the world’s fourth largest technology cluster, Bangalore has the perfect ecosystem fostering growth and development of State-of-the-art technology. The State has made notable progress in all sectors inspite of the global slowdown in recent years. This paper is an attempt to analyse the trends in the growth of Net State Domestic Product in Karnataka for the period 1980-2011. It is concerned with the growth of different sectors of the economy, the changes in the shares of sectors to the Net State Domestic Product of Karnataka. The paper categorised a period of 31 years (1980-2011) as the Pre-liberalisation period-1980-1990, two phases of liberalisation:-Period/Phase 1:1990-2000, Period/Phase 2:2000-2011.Methodology follows the semi-log growth model. Karnataka recorded considerable growth rate of domestic product in the I-Phase and II-Phase of liberalisation period and for the entire period. What has been observed is that in the three periods and for the entire period both in terms of rates of growth and share in net state domestic product the tertiary sector has dominated.

The study examined the relationship between tax revenue and economic growth in Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive and historical research design; secondary data for twenty-two years (1994 -2015) were collected from various issues of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin and annual reports. Tax revenue as an independent variable was measured with Value Added Tax (VAT); Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT); Company Income Tax (CIT) and Custom and Excise Duties (CED) while the dependent variable was Economic Growth (EG) proxied by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Analysis was performed on data collected using Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Regression and other post estimations (Jarque-Bera test; Breusch-Godfrey LM and Ramsey Reset Test) to determine the existence of relationship between the variables. The results of the study showed that VAT and CED had a significant relationships with economic growth (p<0.05), while CIT has negative significant relationship with economic growth (P<0.05). However, PPT had no significant relationship with economic growth. The study concluded that the role of taxation in nation’s building is irreplaceable. Taxation remains a strong socio political and economic tool for economic prosperity. It is therefore recommended that government should engage in a complete re-organization of tax administrative machinery to reduce incidence of tax evasion and avoidance to the barest minimum in order to improve tax revenue and bring more people and establishments into the tax net. Also, tax revenue should be judiciously utilized to provide enabling environment for business survival and economic growth in Nigeria.

Nelson and Quick (2013) describe organizational cultures as “a pattern of basic assumptions that are considered valid and that are taught to new members as a way to perceive, think and feel in the organization” (p.592). Organizational cultures are a vital part of any company’s environment and provide employees with the necessary tools to integrate themselves into the overall organizational dynamic; however, most organizational cultures are plagued with dysfunctional dynamics that have stemmed from a dysfunctional personality of a key leader in their environment. This paper is based on the experience of designing and delivering special change, the organizational culture has been, for the most part, healthy and thriving. In this paper, we will review some of the problems facing the University and how key organizational leaders have successfully influenced change in a manner that has led to the valuable organizational culture in place today.

New model of understanding income distribution through graduation of normalized Gini Mean Difference

This work covers such a topical problem as the study of income and wealth inequality. It introduces the notion of “graduation”, i.e. rate of wage rate scale customary at time wage system. Graduation means introduction of the index m as a degree of the polynomial based on which the wage rate scale is distributed. In other words, using m allows to graduate Gini mean difference (0<G<1) by assigning integral number or fraction m, 0<m<∞ to every value of Gini index. Similarly, for each m we can calculate and estimate corresponding normalized Gini mean difference (the analog of Gini index used for simplicity of calculations).
Note that in this case we are not talking about distribution in real society, but in the simplest model of this society – a metaphoric community with only one person at each income level. This way we get the most distinct impression of the mechanism of income distribution that gives us the chance to assess scale of inequality. To some extent it clarifies the wide-spread Gini coefficient and “the nature of populations’ wealth”.

Capital Market Development and Economic Growth in Nigeria
AJIBOLA, Ayodeji

Array
The paper examined the effect of a well developed capital market on economic growth in Nigeria. We developed a model that is able to investigate how capital market development affects business cycle volatilities, and in the long run economic growth through the use of multi-variable regression analysis. Unit root test was conducted and all our estimating variables were stationary at first difference except the Christiano-Fitzgerald filter which shows that our model interpretation would not be spurious and a true representation of the relationships that exists between the explained and explanatory variables. Error Correction Model was introduced in our estimation in order to have a parsimonious model. Insignificant variables such as Net Export were removed from our model. This can be understood from the reasoning that Nigeria remains a mono-cultural economy (oil dependent) and is seen by the export shocks being negative and significant from our earlier regression result. From our result, all our variables (market capitalization, gross fixed capital, and structural activity) all have a positive but fairly insignificant impact on economic growth. The volatility measure on the other hand had a negative but highly significant impact on economic growth which supports the endogenous growth model that developing countries (Nigeria inclusive) are highly susceptible to macroeconomic shocks such as money supply shocks, export supply shocks, productivity shocks, etc). In addition, Engle-Granger co integration test was done and showed the existence of a long run relationship between capital market development and economic growth in Nigeria. We recommend adopting a policy framework that address the weak linkages between net export and the rest of the Nigerian economy by diversification, creating conducive environment that allows domestic investors to invest in the capital market and removing all impediments to local businesses. Finally, government securities should be channelled to more productive sectors to complement those in the private sector.

The Indian economy has been a mixed economy, fostering the co - existence of the Public and the Private Sector. With Independent India focused on achieving rapid economic progress, a major thrust was laid on the development of the Public Sector Enterprises, as the duties of the State had transformed from that of a police state to one of welfare. These Public Sector Enterprises were the major Engines of Economic Growth. A major thrust was on development focusing on structural change with the setting up of the large Basic and Key industries, as also the Infrastructure industries.

Keynes’s definition of uncertainty is directly based on his weight of the argument (evidence) relation, analyzed in chapters 6 and 26 of the A Treatise on Probability (1921), page 148,as well as the footnote on page 148 ,of the General Theory (1936) ,and multiple pages of his February, 1937 Quarterly Journal of Economics article. There is no discussion of the definition of Uncertainty in his exchanges with Jan Tinbergen in 1939-40 in the Economic Journal.
Paul Davidson and his Post Keynesian-Institutionalist supporters base their Ergodic-Non Ergodic approach to the definitions of uncertainty and risk on the inductive fallacy of Conditional A priorism (Long Runism). The claim , made by Paul Davidson and his Post Keynesian-Institutionalist supporters for over 30 years, that decision makers are able to identify the ergodicity or non ergodicity of long run stochastic sequences or series of events or outcomes in the short run ,based on Davidson’s claim that decision makers are able to know or learn of the convergence properties of such series or sequences, which can only be known “in the long run “(infinity), by examining sub series or sub sequences ,is patently false and not accepted by any scholar in any other academic field .
Davidson bases his binary approach to uncertainty, which rules out any concept of different degrees to knowledge (certainty) and unknowledge (uncertainty), on both metaphysical speculations and/or a priori claims to knowledge. There can be no such thing as probable knowledge under this binary approach.

Primary data involved field survey using questionnaire in which 245 copies were administered to the selected riparian residents to evaluate their perception and experience on human effects on riparian vegetation, water body and resultant problems. Secondary data involved an existing relevant data. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The survey results showed that urban growth had resulted to loss of farmland/garden (73.9%), riparian natural forest (86.1%), medicinal tree/herbs and shrub (77.1%), and useful timbers (62.8%). Riparian deforestation had also resulted to high sedimentation of the river basin (77.6%), increased river seasonal volume (76.7%),enhanced access of solid particles/materials into the river (76.7%), loss of riparian animals (82.9%), pollution of the river (75.5%) riparian flooding (75.9%) that subsequently resulted to loss of lives and properties (84.1%) and loss of valuable plant (95.9%).Therefore, the study concluded that there is significant negative effects of anthropogenic activities on River Ominla Riparian corridor and that this requires urgent attention.
